Workers' Welfare Outreach

At the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), we go beyond simply ensuring that people working on our projects have safe working and living conditions. We recognise that working in Qatar must involve out-of-work activities, social inclusion and workers being recognised for their efforts.

Here are just some of the events and initiatives we have organised as part of our workers’ welfare outreach work.

Workers' Cup

Many of our workers are as passionate about football as we are. The Workers' Cup is their chance to compete in a professionally planned tournament, co-hosted by the Qatar Stars League (QSL), the final of which is played in front of thousands at a QSL club ground. Many of the watching fans are the workers’ colleagues and the atmosphere at Workers' Cup games is always lively.

Barwa Workers Recreation Complex

In partnership with Qatar Foundation and the SC, Barwa Real Estate Company built a recreation complex as part of accommodation for 53,000 workers in Al Khor, the site of Al Bayt Stadium. The SC sponsors the recreation facility’s football pitches, which can be reserved by workers who wish to arrange casual games or more competitive tournaments. The SC sponsorship keeps the pitches – made from FIFA-certified artificial grass – in good condition.

Football Fun Day

In 2016, to celebrate International Labour Day, the SC organised a football-themed event for hundreds of workers. Those attending enjoyed free food and drinks, music, competitions, football skills demonstrations, and novelties like bubble football. For workers, it was a chance to relax and socialise away from work. For us, it was a chance to show our appreciation to the thousands of people helping us build towards 2022.
